I’m here with the COVID-19 business continuity update on Thursday 21st May.
In today’s update:
1. More council grants
2. Other employment matters – federal ruling on casual worker entitlement case
1. More council grants for COVID-19 support
The business coaching team at Tenfold have identified some more funding opportunities coming through local councils to support businesses during COVID-19. These grants are in addition to the Business Victoria Growth Fund grants of $10,000 (see my email of 5th May here: https://tenfoldcoaching.com.au/covid-19-business-continuity-5th-may/). Note that applications for the Victorian government grants close on 1st June. Your Tenfold Business Coach can help you apply for the grants – speak with your mentor today.
Banyule Council is offering grants of $5,000 for business initiatives and $1,000 for business continuity.

Glen Eira Council has quick response grants of $2,000 for small businesses (with payroll under $650,000)

2. Other employment matters – federal ruling on casual worker entitlement case
Yesterday the federal court issued a judgment that casual workers who perform regular, permanent work could be owed further entitlements such as annual and sick leave, similar to those of permanent employees. These entitlements are on top of the loading of up to 25% on their base rate of pay, effectively providing a “double dip”.
Industrial relations minister, Christian Porter, has already commented and has promised to consider legislation. Given the significant impact this ruling could have on employers, especially in the current climate, we’d expect that the government will take action to mitigate the ruling.
