Business Insights – Victorian workplace cap lifted

I’m here with insights for Australian businesses on 25th March 2021.

For our clients and businesses with operations in Victoria, workplace restrictions will be eased further (and effectively eliminated) from 6:00pm on Friday 26 March. There are two main changes for Victorian businesses:

1. The cap on the number of people at work has been lifted, which means you can have your team return to your workplace. This means all your team can now return to what the situation was before March 2020. While there is no limit to the number of staff, the density rule still applies of one person per 2 square metres.

2. Previously, the restrictions mandated employers to allow their employees to work from home. That will no longer apply; you can now direct your staff members to return to their normal work location.

For those of you who’ve had employees working from home for an extended period, think about how to re-integrate them to the workplace. For steps on how to manage this process, refer to my briefing (19 Jan 2021) on reviewing working from home with your team. Your business coach can give you advice on how you can adapt this process to suit your operations and your team members.

Another change to restrictions for Victorians is that masks are no longer required in public places, including shops, however they are still required on public transport, taxis and ridesharing services.
