COVID-19 Business Continuity – 9th October

I’m here with the COVID-19 continuity update for Australian businesses on Friday 9th October.

As we come to the end of another week, I want to bring the focus back to you.

I have been speaking with many Tenfold clients this week and I’ve been really impressed with how our clients are handling the challenges that keep being thrown at your businesses. The resilience I’m seeing is commendable and I want to acknowledge that.

I also want to acknowledge that it can be a hard slog to keep toughing it out. At some point, that resilience might falter a bit. And that’s ok.

Give yourself permission to have a bad day.

I’ve been listening to a podcast series which features interviews with people who have faced challenges and who have stumbled.

The interviews that have resonated the most with me are those with Tim Paine and Trent Cotchin. Both these leaders have been brutally honest in sharing their struggles, as players and as leaders. Their candid stories are relevant to us as business owners, especially now; they explain how they have put themselves under enormous pressure to always be “switched on”, to always provide a positive response to the question, “How are you going?”

I know many Tenfold clients will relate to that, to the expectation we have of ourselves that we always have to put on a brave face and be our best. That’s why I want to reiterate what Tim Paine and Cotch have said: Give yourself permission to have a bad day.

Recognise it for what it is – a bad day. Not the worst version of yourself, not a failure. A bad day is not who you are. It’s just a bad day.

If you feel that the bad days are stacking up, ask for help. You might ask a mate, a family member, a support line, your counsellor, definitely discuss with your Tenfold business coach. If you’re interested, here’s a link to the interviews. I hope you find them useful like I have.
