Business Insights – 25th October 2021 – Victoria open for good, vaccination mandate to stay

I’m here with insights for Australian businesses on 25th October 2021 – I hope our Victorian clients enjoyed the first weekend of freedom from lockdown. In this briefing:

  • Vic reopening for good
  • Vaccination mandate in place until 2023
  • Vic schools reopening sooner – Monday 1st November
  • Restrictions to ease further in November

Your Tenfold coach is here if you have any questions about any of the items in this briefing.

1. Vic reopening for good

Tenfold clients with operations in Victoria welcomed the news on Sunday that the state will be a big step closer to being fully reopen from Friday, and staying that way.

As business owners we have had to deal with the uncertainty and frustrations of lockdowns however the Vic premier has confirmed that from here on, lockdowns will be a thing of the past. The planned road map to opening the economy will be continued, regardless of the cases.

The Age reported this today: “The Premier said his government would not be looking at pausing the road map out of restrictions even if daily cases continued to climb and the pressure on the healthcare system increased, saying there was no better protection against the virus than vaccination.” (see the article here: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/most-of-victoria-s-covid-rules-will-end-in-november-with-one-key-exception-20211024-p592og.html)

2. Vaccination mandate in place until 2023

Also announced by the Vic premier is that the vaccination mandate for workers will be in place throughout 2022.

We had thought that Vic might follow NSW and remove restrictions once a high level of vaccination had been reached. There is some speculation that this is a tactic of the Vic authorities to keep the pressure on people to get vaccinated, and that the mandate may lift once a certain vaccination target is achieved. However, at this time, we can only go on the official advice that the mandate will be in place for the next year.

Consider how to manage this new announcement with your employees who are not vaccinated and can’t work from home. Your Tenfold business coach can support you in this process.

3. Vic schools reopening sooner – Monday 1st November

In other news, the date for all students to return to school has been brought forward to Monday 1st November. The staged plan remains in place for this week, then normal school resumes from Monday 1st November for all Vic students.

4. Restrictions to ease further in November

The next easing of restrictions you can look forward to for your business is in November, when Vic reaches 90% double vax (expected around 24th November). At that point, there will be no caps on number of people or density restrictions, and masks will no longer be required in offices.
