COVID-19 Business Continuity – 24th November

I’m here with the COVID-19 continuity update for Australian businesses on 24th November.

Restrictions in Victoria have eased again, with the state moving into the “last step” of the roadmap.

One of the significant updates that will apply to many Tenfold clients is that you will be allowed to have up to 10 people working in your office. This update is for businesses that have less than 40 staff and that can comply with the density requirement of a maximum of 1 person per 4sqm

Businesses with over 40 staff are also allowed to have staff return to office but they are limited to 25% of the workforce per site. The announcement makes particular reference to offices in CBD, due to the challenge of socially distancing in key areas such as public transport and lifts in multi-storey buildings. Much of the government’s anxiety about allowing people to return to offices comes from CBD towers where people are packed into close proximity workstations and get to the office on crowded trains and lifts. However, many smaller businesses like our business coaching clients easily meet the 1 person per 4sqm requirement.

What this means is that many small businesses will be able to bring back the majority of their office staff, if not all of their team members. This will be a big boost to productivity for many businesses that have not been in an industry that remained open.

Some businesses we mentor have trialled work from home and found some merit in adopting it. Other businesses we coach have found it challenging to  operate effectively over the COVID restriction period. I will bring you more insights in the coming weeks on how to assess whether work from home might become a more regular occurrence in your business. On that note, I welcome the news for our clients in the fitness industry that they will be once again able to operate at normal capacity within density requirements. I commend you for adjusting your businesses and persisting through the restrictions.

Work Christmas parties are also a possibility again, with the easing of restrictions in the hospitality sector. There is no limit on the size of the group and smaller venues (less than 200sqm) are allowed to have higher density quotients.
