COVID-19 Business Continuity – 19th October

I’m here with the COVID-19 continuity update for Australian businesses on 19th October.

Victorians received news yesterday that some of the industry restrictions have eased slightly. While it’s good news for some, it’s still not enough for many businesses both in Melbourne and regional Victoria. I know many Tenfold clients using our business coaching services have robust COVIDSafe plans in place and would be able to conduct business safely if a more pragmatic approach to the restrictions were implemented.

I passed a playground on the weekend that was packed with kids and parents. There was very little social distancing and there certainly wasn’t anyone wiping down and sanitising the play equipment or other high touch surfaces like the playground gate lock. Once again, I couldn’t help but feel that the risk in this environment was much greater than a managed business environment with a well thought out COVIDSafe plan.

Updated Victorian industry restrictions

The Victorian industry restrictions that have been eased slightly will now enable some trades in Victoria to resume work and increase the number of workers on site for certain low risk, outdoor work.

The most significant changes to the business restrictions mean non-essential outdoor home maintenance works can now be conducted with up to 5 workers on site, including:
• Repairs;
• Renovations;
• Exterior painting;
• Solar panel installation;
• Pool cleaning;
• Other outdoor workers previously permitted to work alone such as landscaping and gardening are now allowed to have up to a maximum of five workers on site.

It’s my understanding that the maximum number of workers on site includes all workers for all services being conducted at the premises.

All businesses are required to have a COVIDSafe Plan for onsite operations. I would advise that even if you have been subcontracted to carry out work for the primary contract holder, it’s worthwhile having a COVIDSafe Plan for your component of the project. Here’s a link to the template for a COVIDSafe plan: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/covidsafe-plan

Everyone in Victoria is becoming an expert at interpreting the restrictions, but if you have questions reach out to your business coach for advice.
