I’m here with insights for Australian businesses on 19th July 2021.
Before we go into the detail, I know a lot of Tenfold clients are keen to understand what financial support will be coming down the line. I’ll have an update later today on the state and federal financial support available for businesses in NSW and Vic.
NSW goes into harder lockdown
From 12:01am today (Monday, 19 July 2021), stricter restrictions are in place for Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour:
- Construction sites have been closed
- Residential construction including renovations is also stopped
- Non-essential retail is closed
All of NSW has a work from home directive for anyone who can reasonably do so. If you can’t work from home and your workplace is allowed to open, face masks must be worn.
The industry closures and WFH directives are in place until 11.59pm on Friday 30 July 2021. Visit NSW gov website here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules/greater-sydney#construction-activity-pause
What we can see in NSW is that they are applying a much broader approach to restrictions than Victoria did in the peak of the lockdown restrictions last year.
Victoria lockdown extended
Vic Premier Dan Andrews has confirmed that the state’s lockdown will not end tomorrow night as planned, but has not put a timeframe on when it will lift.
We’re expecting to have more clarity tomorrow on the lockdown extension.
Pay and leave for employees in isolation/quarantine
As the lockdowns continue, we’re seeing more exposure sites listed.
It’s possible that your employees may be directed to isolate because they have been in contact with a known case or have been at an exposure site. (In Vic, the exposure sites are categorised as tier 1 and tier 2.) I wrote last year about how to handle a scenario where your employee can’t attend work due to a government directive to isolate while they are awaiting test results.
There are two possible situations:
A. Your employee can work from home while they isolate
B. Your employee can’t work from home while they isolate
See my briefing here on pay and leave for employees in isolation/quarantine: https://tenfoldcoaching.com.au/covid-19-business-continuity-3rd-june/
In the briefing there are links to the relevant pages on the Fair Work website. I also explained when sick leave can and can’t be claimed by employees, so it’s worth ensuring you’re across the different scenarios and entitlements.
The Tenfold business coaches can help you assess the situation and navigate the Fair Work advice.
