BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: What’s The Superhero Factor in Your Business

With the upcoming blockbuster release of Batman Vs Superman, here at Tenfold Business Coaching we cannot be more thrilled to see two of our favourite superheroes go head to head. Since their inception by Bob Kane and Bill Finger (Batman) and Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (Superman), DC Comics have created a league of heroes who rely on their instinct and strengths to come to our rescue and save the day.

What’s the superhero factor in your small business?
The superhero factor is that unknown factor or the unexplainable thing which adds a certain value to your business. In business it is the edge that will give you a significant advantage over your competitors. We like to think of it as the sweet spot, where you achieve perfect synergy between your passion, what you excel at, and what the market wants and is willing to pay for.

When you discover this in your business, it gives you the clarity and momentum to produce unsurpassed long-term results and build a truly awesome business.

Let’s look at the characters, Superman and Batman and their different approaches to their business (saving the world):

What rings your bat-phone? (ie Why did you go into business?)
Take some time to think about what you are really passionate about and what you really want to achieve. Where does your passion lie?

Batman’s goals are highly centralised in his home city of Gotham. No matter where he travels or what he does, his goals are always in line with keeping his city and people safe. These goals are fantastic at keeping you locally minded, engaged and in touch with your local area.

Superman’s motivations, though similar to Batman’s, are higher reaching; with his creation of the Justice League (a global business) he aims to stay relevant and achieve world-wide acclaim.

Just remember what keeps you motivated and why you chose to get into your business.

Faster than a speeding bullet: Assess your strengths and the market opportunities
As a business, what are you really good at? Look at where you have achieved a market niche, and ask, is this driving growth?

Once Superman has whipped off his glasses and curled his fringe, he reveals a charismatic and likable character (High I personality). His strengths lie in his personable attitude and endless amount of empathy. This makes him the perfect choice to be the face of the Justice League.

Batman is a polar opposite; he displays all the attributes of a D personality; he is calculating, to the point, results focused and extremely moody. He is aware of his skills and uses them to better the functionality of the League.

What are your customers’ unsolved problems? How can you meet their needs? Is there an opportunity or niche in this?

Understanding your Superhero factor will give you a framework to make informed decisions in your business and the power to say ‘no’ to opportunities that don’t take you in the right direction.
